Prerona Roy, A fire survivor a John Maxwell Certified Coach, Founder of Inspiring Excellence…is a living inspiration for every one. She also gives insights on what it means to be a coach.

Q.Your name means inspiration…what has been your inspiration in life?
Inspiration is something very intrinsic to me. I feel the world around me inspires me – whether its people doing good or nature. And I am a very self driven optimistic person. I want to challenge myself each time to do something new and this really helps me to look upto the sun each morning.
Q.As a coach, what are the essential qualities one should possess?
Coaching is 99% who you are and 1% of technique so having the right qualities and skills is very important. A coach needs to be non egoistic and believing the participant is whole and has all the answers within him. A coach needs to be very observant, empathetic and a very active listener.
Q.What were those moments in your life which made you what you are today? Every experience of our life goes into shaping us and making us who we are. So it definitely isn’t one such moment. However, my journey of surviving through 82% burns have been a major turnaround in my life. It gave me clarity on human relationships and taught me the power of gratitude.
Q.Today’s world many people give up so easily in life….what would be your advice to them?
People give up easily because they are trying to look at eating the big elephant. Its about breaking it into moments and days. Taking one day at a time. Small steps to just breathe and feel I am alive. And thanking the universe about it. (Might sound very bookish but thats exactly how I make my way through tough times).
Q. How was your childhood…did you have any phobias or fear? I was born in a simple middle class family. Family was everything. We four shared everything together. At school also my teachers and principals played an important part. Phobias i guess creeped into me with age. As a child I was fearless. With age and experience logic and the mind started playing more and brought in fears.
Q.With Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence coming to play everywhere…do you foresee a world where Robots will coach people on all issues?
Being in the midst of the 4th Industrial Revolution we are constantly seeing VR, AI & Robotics making a big difference to the way we live and do things. And soon a lot of data driven coaching might be possible. AI can drive participants to alternatives available. However, I do not see a lot of creative intuitive conversations happening that is the core of coaching. So AI clubbed with human interventions is what I see as the future .
Q.What is life for you?
Journey between life and death where we are continually evolving through the choices we make and the experiences we have.
